We are a group of Lutherans in the Alpena, Michigan area who are currently committed and active in ELCA congregations of which we love and care deeply about. However, we are concerned about the overall direction of the ELCA in a number of ways and yet recognize others we currently serve with do not share our concern. To be positive, healthy, and most importantly faithful; we are considering alternatives along with the possibility of starting a new Lutheran congregation in this area, instead of unduly disrupting the ministries in our current congregations. If we leave our current memberships, we will do it with full respect, hoping to be able to help each other and not be adversaries of one another. This is not a fight or a rebellion. It is about allowing each person the option to follow their core beliefs and convictions while spreading the Good News of Christ.
Today the landscape of synod options is fluid and rapidly changing. We are monitoring these changes and want to be confident in the core beliefs and viability of any new organization and/or synod. However, we know we will only align with an organization that allows us to be rooted in the Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions, recognizing the authority of God's word while we work together to fulfill Christ's Great Commission to go and make disciples of all nations.
